NOTA BIOGRAFICZNA / BIO
Kamil Sobański is a PhD candidate in law at the Digital Justice Center. He is specialized in criminal (procedural) law, international criminal law and European criminal law. Currently his main interests focus on the impact of technology on criminal justice.
Kamil Sobański is a law graduate from the Faculty of Law, Administration, and Economics at the University of Wrocław (spending a semester abroad at the University of Liège in Belgium). He defended his master’s thesis at the Department of International and European Law. He participated in international summer schools on public international law, international criminal law, and human rights law; including the 2024 Summer Course on Human Rights at the European University Institute in Florence, where he was awarded a Diploma of the Academy of European Law. He gained his initial research experience as a Student Research Assistant at the Digital Justice Center. He was as a president of the Student Circle of International and European Law, and a member of the Human Rights Circle, where he researched strategic litigation. He was also involved in student life, serving as a member of the Faculty Student Government and the Faculty Council. During his master studies, he gained hands-on experience in criminal law interning at the Polish Commissioner for Human Rights Office (Biuro Rzecznika Praw Obywatelskich) and a law firm.
Kamil Sobański is currently preparing his PhD dissertation at the Digital Justice Center, under the supervision of Prof. Karolina Kremens, as part of the project “Virtual Justice: Remote Proceedings before the International Criminal Court – Threat or Opportunity” funded by the Polish National Science Centre. His PhD research explores the legal issues surrounding remote participation via video link in proceedings before the International Criminal Court. As part of his PhD studies, he was a visiting researcher at the Department of Criminal Law at the Tilburg University in the Netherlands for six months under the supervision of Prof. Elies van Sliedregt and Dr. Dorris de Vocht. Additionally, he has held visiting fellowships in Bologna and Padua. He teaches courses in English and Polish on international criminal law, EU criminal law and criminal procedural law. He coached the Faculty’s International Criminal Court Moot Court team in 2024/2025.
Kamil Sobański is a member of Association Internationale De Droit Pénal (AIDP), European Society of International Law (ESIL) and Virtual Criminal Justice Network (VCJN). Kamil publishes on the “Przegląd Prawa Międzynarodowego” [“International Law Review”] blog on the activities of the International Criminal Court.
