Political and Legal Thought

The course will present conceptions in the field of political philosophy from the Antiquity till contemporary times.

Students will get to know philosophical ideas put forward by major political and legal thinkers, like Plato, Aristotle, Machiavelli, Grotius, Hobbes, Montesquieu etc.

The course will also encompass an analysis of modern political ideologies, like liberalism, conservatism, socialism, communism, anarchism etc.

Last but not least, we will discuss the meaning of a very fascinating and equivocal word and try to find an answer to the question: “what is law?”.
