History of Crime and Criminal Justice
Program: Criminal Justice
The course attempts to go beyond the study of law and formal justice systems towards research into the many forms of violence and into penal institutions, including their historical background. Students explore the administration of criminal justice systems, the nature of crime, the relationship between law and its social context, and the impact and importance of cross-cultural inquiry within the field. Main subject of this course is the evolution of criminal justice systems in Europe, with particular emphasis placed on the period from the 18th century to contemporary forms of social control.
